The color was hard to find at Lost Maples last week but there was some in a few parts of the park. Looking up through the leaves of a big leaf maple that had turned certainly did provide the color!

Vanderpool, Lost Maples SNA – spring in Lost Maples is time for the mountain laurels to come out.

Lost Maples has many hidden gems – both those that nature provides and man enjoys and that man provides and nature enjoys. Like this hidden birdhouse which I hope gets much use from the locals as they explore the park and enjoy the mountain laurels and other foliage.

Vanderpool, Lost Maples SNA. Spring trip to Lost Maples last year was very rewarding with budding trees, Mountain Laurels and running water! Tranquil waterfall near the crossroads of Lost Maples.

Lost Maples is a great place to explore, every time I go I see something different. Seasons change, trees grow and the park is just huge. Here is just an interesting lichen covered limb that I found interesting on one of my outings there.

Lost Maples, Vanderpool, Texas – Finding any kind of fall foliage color (other than brown) can be a challenge in Texas…but not at Lost Maples – Red Oaks, Lacey Oaks and Maples are found in this secluded area and when the weather has been cooperative in the fall, they put on a very colorful show!
